Priority Growth Area Rezoning Project Update and Save the Date (August 15)
This week the league received an update from the City of Edmonton on the Priority Growth Area Rezoning project. Garneau has been selected for targeted, proactive rezonings; The City will be hosting workshops and online engagement to help inform which specific sites should be rezoned, and they are planning a University-Garneau workshop on August 15.

Update on Garneau supportive housing development
The league recently received an update on the City’s progress toward developing City-owned land at 11049 and 11053 - 83 Avenue. As you may recall, City Council approved the proposal on April 23, 2024, to develop a four-storey supportive housing apartment building with 34 units, including five barrier-free units designed for people with disabilities.

District Plan Update: A call for more diverse housing in Garneau
The Garneau Community League wants diverse housing types in the community. We cannot achieve this without specified direction within the Scona District Plan.

Summer Green Shacks
The Green Shack program is a free City of Edmonton drop-in program catered to children ages 6 to 12; however, all are welcome. Program leaders host games, sports, crafts, music, drama and special events daily (on weekdays) throughout the summer. Check out some of the ones near The Garneau.

Vibrant Crosswalk Project: The Garneau Forest
The Garneau is getting a vibrant crosswalk at 110 Street and 86 Ave! The theme is trees. Send us a drawing of a tree to help contribute to the design. All submitted designs will be combined into a “forest” that will be painted on the crosswalk.
