Changes to the Residential Parking Program in Garneau
Big changes are coming to the City of Edmonton’s Residential Parking Program (RPP). Here is what Garneau residents need to know…
The majority of Garneau’s existing permit areas will remain in place (orange). A couple small areas have been removed (purple).
Garneau residents who would like a permit will need to pay $10 a month for September through December 2024, and $120 for an annual permit in 2025.
Existing residential parking permits expire on May 31 and new digital permits will be made available before that date.
A maximum of two permits per household will be issued; Student permits are exempt from the two permit maximum.
Previously permits were only available to residents of single-family homes and multi-family buildings up to three storeys. Under the new program, residents living in multi-unit residential buildings of all sizes are eligible for permits.
The restrictions will be the same for all areas: 2 hour parking 8am to 9pm Monday to Saturday and 10am-5pm Sunday except residents with valid permits. No restrictions outside these times.
Temporary parking permits may be available for visitors to park for renovations, out-of-town guests and one-time social events longer than the two-hour free parking period.
The City of Edmonton will be mailing out further details to residents this spring.
